Sadly our lovely Milor ( Gron-de-Mon Milor De Marais) - had to be put to sleep yesterday
Some of you may know that he had an extreme bout of vomiting and diahorrea last July. the vet fearing a blockage operated which resulted in an extreme reaction to the anaesthetic - he was in a coma for two days, on a drip for 4 more and eventually came home to us 10 days after the operation with a diagnosis of IBD ( Irritable Bowel disease) and daily doses of steroids which he would have to take for the rest of his life.
Things looked good through the summer and he started eating again and enjoying his games of football in the paddock with 'dad' but then last week he had a bout of sickness and stopped eating despite the Steroids. He lost all energy and just wanted to sleep all the time- his fur fell out and he could not even manage to get up to say hello in the mornings.
Last Tuesday morning Milor had a massive fit - when he came round I knew it was time to let him go - I held him close as he slipped away. Milor weighed just under 12kgs when he died- he would have been 4 years old next February.
Until now I had not known how serious a disease IBD could be or witnessed the devastating effects that anaesthetics can have on our breed - a warning to all out there to let your vets know just how vulnerable our dogs are when they are operated on.
