Just a quickie as i'm after i little advice. My little boy is quickly growing out of his grobag sleeping bags we use at night and we're debating whether we continue with these or go onto a quilt. 
What have others done with their little ones and how do you keep a figeter tucked in??

How old your little'un, if I remember rightly he must be 1 by now or close to it?

I was told never to use a quilt until the baby is at least a year old as they can overhead with them as babies are unable to control their body temp until around that age.  I never used a quilt on any of my 4 children until they were around 13 months old.  I hadnt even used one of these grobags until my youngest son was born (hes now 4) as he was the worlds worst fidget and sleeper but I did find that he used to sweat a lot with it so I gave up and continued with the sheets and blankets.  They all used to kick off their sheets etc so just put an extra layer of clothing on instead to keep them warm at night and socks underneath the sleepsuit to keep their toes warm.   To be honest if they kick sheets etc off then they will do just the same with a quilt but eventually they will learn that they can stay nice and cosy underneath one and will try to pull it up themselves at some point.

I just thought one layer would be easier than 2 ..... also only have 1 sheet shocking i know.
I suspect that the bag is actually affecting his sleep as he seems to get stuck in them!

Need to get him lots of nightwear so he'll be warm eough.....  bring on thomas and postman pat pj's!!!

I did find that all mine absolutely hated being tucked in and restricted in any way so I only ever tucked in the bottom of the sheets/blankets etc so they could wriggle out when they wanted to!!  He should be fine with a quilt, just start off with a very low tog one, similar thickness to his grobag to get him used to feeling free, you can always add layers when it starts to get a little colder.

My daughter was a terrible wriggler and a few times I found her with a sheet wrapped around her neck so i asked the health visitor if it would be ok to give her a duvet even though she was under a year. She said yes as she was able to wriggle out of it if she got to hot. She is now 14 and I look at with envy at the sleepsuits that hadnt been invented when she was born.

I just used a recieving blanket with a baby blankets on top- as they out grew the recieving blanket then it was just baby blankets. I did this for both my children when they were lil and they seem fine I also rolled a towel behind them and one in front down by their knees to keep them on their side. Ya I know now they say to put them to sleep on their back? I dunno have heard so many first the side, then the back, the stomache I just stayed with the sides. When they started fidgeting I removed the towels cause by then they were rolling around so didn't need them- Yup Iam a worry wart.

Is he in a bed or still in a cot?  If he's in a cot it'll be difficult to get rid of the quilt if he gets too hot.  My kids had quilts from 2 years but a friend told me recently that you can buy proper kid's duvets & that they can't regulate their body temperatures properly until they are 5 years? 

Mine are still alive 'n' kicking though.

think I used those all in one bedtime suits (fleecey pj's with feet) & then a sheet & blanket if necessary.  Both my kids sweat for England though (dh is forever taking the duvet out of it's cover & dumping it on the floor for them.  He then wonders why they get up at 4am 'cos they're cold grrrrr!)
