The world of dog breeding is getting stranger and stranger! Just seen an advert for a litter of pups (not born yet so no pics) that are a cross between two of my favourite breeds. However, they sound completely bizarre!
Mum is a Siberian Husky - this is what caught my eye as I own 2 :-) and dad is a........................................wait for it................................................................BOXER! Both fantastic breeds but WTF! I can't even begin to imagine what those pups will look like and how their temperament will be! The mind boggles!
Oh and they want £200 for each pup!

Someone in our breed long ago had a Norwegian elkhound cross Boxer, from teh Black and white photos it looked like a Malinois of the working type..

> boxer crossed with a chinese crested

Have seen this one advertised and think it probably tops the idiocy that I've seen so far, on health, shape, temperament ...

Trying to think how thats possible, for one.  Unless the boxer is the bitch.  But, secondly, WHY?????
You all know I love cresteds, but I cant see the point of a boxer that looks like a crested.  Puff of hair on the head, tail, etc, with the body of the boxer......off to google to see if I can see what some look like????  Or do I want to????
This is the last time I will allow you to take a breath from my lungs to fill your own.

In one evening I've seen ads for

Lab/Basset :-(
Bernese/Airedale eek
Basset/Cocker :-(
CKC/Basset :-(

Insanity seems to rule at the moment :-(  One thing all these crosses seem to have is a wide discrepancy between the two breeds, the problems with construction and weight alone don't bear thinking about :-(

that poor boxer crestie cross is already looking for its 2nd home
another one was on well known puppy site not so long ago
and apparently this is the 2nd litter of this cross
pity the public buy them, if the idiots were left with pups they may think again before breeding
all about money
it makes my blood boil

Don't know if it's still advertised, but there has also been a Rough Collie x Hungarian Puli litter available recently. Form an orderly queue, folks. Can you imagine the potential for coat problems and neglect there?

Fortunately, the idiots seem to have been having trouble selling them, so hopefully they won't repeat it.

What about Norwegian Elkhound x maremma sheepdog, the scope for conflict in traits there.  Suspicious flock guarding breed combined with an independant hunting dog!!!
Barbara and the Grey Curly Tails.
By Dill (*****) [gb] Date 27.08.08 09:12 GMT
Oh dear! :-(  Why?

I forgot to mention the ......  American Bulldog/Dobermann   -  now there's a cross with good potential for temperament problems.  I've met a few people with ABs and they get very difficult very quickly and Dobe's in the right hands are lovely, but in the wrong hands ... :-( :-(

See this link for the massive list of mutts
http://dogs.thefuntimesguide.com/2006/09/hybrid_mixed_dog_breeds.php

I can kind of understand in a weird way the poodle mixes for the coat but some of the mixes are just stupid.
I personally think it you want a low allergy dog buy a poodle!! Not a mutt for the same price

And I agree the schnauzer x poodle is one for the fugly awards

Has anyone seen the news about the Obamas wanting a Labradoodle?

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/unleashed/2008/07/peta-to-obama-i.html

Irony is that PETA have apealed to them to not buy a "purebred dog"
By Crespin (****) [ca] Date 27.08.08 19:02 GMT
A Laffon??  (probably not pronounced laughin - as I think).  Brussels Griffon and Lhasa Apso???

I did search, but thankfully no pics came up, I either got a pic of a Boxer, or a CC.  I would hate to see what they look like, probably worse than the image in my head.
