I have a quick question about scent marking. We have a dog that used to do it every time we got a new puppy. He would scent a little bit up the walls and skirting boards.

Anyway my question is that my friends pup who is 9 months old has just started to urinate and poo in her house, especially when she is not around. This sometimes happens the evening or the day after my boy has been around her place. He is fine health wise and just wondered if full urination would be a pups way of scent marking or do you think it may be something else that hasn't been thought of??
My friend doesn't know what to do as he has gone all over the sofa, even though my dog and her's isn't allowed on it.
She also has a bitch in the house who is nearly 2. She is not due her next season until November.

What do you think, scent marking or something else?

He is peeing to try and take the top dog position over his owner.  Especially if he is peeing on the sofa that they would normally sit on. 
Be firm with him as he is in the awkward stage, close areas off to him where he does this when they are not in the room.  And watch him like a hawk to catch him at it and then tell him off accordingly.

That is interesting about being top dog over his owner. Both the owner and the bitch sit on the sofa.. Hmm that is interesting. I have never seen him really test my friend nor am i aware that he is this way towards her.
Though i do know he dominates my dog who is dominant himself, my dog has never submitted to any dog apart from my friends.

Could he be worried about being left alone?  I'd restrict his movement to a smaller area or try crating to help with house training. 9 months is a little young for a dog to be 100% house trained. Praise when he's doing wees and poos outside and ignoring it when he does it inside.

He is full house trained and has been left alone without the owner before, she works part time. He is left with the bitch in the house. They were left to have the kitchen and front room to themselves when the owner is out. Though he has urinated when she has been upstairs as well.

He used to be crated and was house trained this way, but hasn't been in it for a long while. She has now restricted him to the kitchen only when she is out along with the bitch, he has peed in the kitchen since this and has also gone through chewing the kitchen cupboards..
He has exercise and is trained in many ways and is entertained a lot when the owner is around.

It is another thought that he does not want to be left alone or is jealous of the bitch.. Think maybe a behviourist would need to look at this.
I'll speak to my friend and get her to document what happens leading up to him doing this to see if there is a pattern emerging.

Chewing the kitchen cupboards is probably just teeth, doubt it is related but if it is then it could be boredom from being home alone.
Maybe with you saying he is played with a lot when owner is around, is she playing with him right before leaving?  As it takes a while for a pup to calm down and you should always to try calm them down, if he wont calm down ignore him for a bit before leaving so the house is calm as she goes, no big event when she leaves.

But the monitoring patterns is a good idea, it will probably be something glaringly obvious when you look back at the records in a few weeks.

I have watched her around her dogs to see what she is doing, if there is something i can pinpoint it to. She thinks she is top of the pack, but she is not consistant with them. Also when she eats she will feed them from her plate with her food, saying she feels sorry for them as they haven;t eaten yet. My response was they will not starve and you can feed them when your done. I had to keep knocking her dogs down from having their heads on the table and the begging that they were doing.
My boy was there also and he just laid down and went to sleep.
