We are buying a 2nd car (cabriolet) & if we take our OES out in it he will need a seat belt.
He is used to going in the back of our Chrysler grand voyager where he just lays down & sleeps but I dont want to risk him not doing that on the back seat of the new car especially with roof down & cats or pigeons in vicinity!

Any advice on seat belts for dogs would be welcomed!!

thanks all

Hi, We have been using a RAC seatbelt since Louis was a pup. Does its job and fits nicely - can also be used as a walking  harness too :-)

I have a harness, something like Hi-Control I think the brand is, looks nice and smart and comes with a little clip to attach it to a car seatbelt. :-)

Hi-Craft's harness works both in the car and for walking and fits comfortably.

Many thanks to you all, time for some research now to locate one of these, the idea to use as a walking harness as well is good to save trying to change harness when excited pooch gets to destination !

Has anyone used a car seatbelt harness for a toy dog eg chihuahua. I would  like to get one for mia but she is so tiny I amstruggling to find one small enough

I have the same harness and use it mainly with Anton in the car and for walking.

Ditto our Border & Cocker use the RAC one and it can double as a harness, fits nice too. Allows Border to have a snooze he loves it, refuses the crate in the rear altogether now.

Kumfi licenses their designs to HiCraft so if you can't find one locally you can buy Kumfi products online here.

That's it, Hi-Craft is the ones we have. Much better for a walking harness than the RAC as it doesn't have the long flappy orange thing! When I had the puppies I had a tiny puppy harness and just used the same seatbelt clip from the Hi-Craft harnesses. You might consider a cat harness for your chihuahua!

Just wondering, I'm sure I read something about 10 years ago about how dog seat belts weren't safety tested and could do a lot more damage to your dog than a crate or guard in an accident. Am I remembering correctly? - probably different design now.

Yes, there certainly wasn't anything like the UK kitemark or European equivalents last time I looked into it and as far as I know there still isn't.  Although some models look quite sturdy they are really only ever as strong as their weakest component so it is not always something you can tell by the naked eye.  Mind you, I don't know that any crates or guards carrying any safety testing assurance either.

Good idea about the cat harness. I think you are right about kitemarks etc the only ones I have found to be tested to seat belt standards are american and dont send over here. Just thought I am getting in a twist about little Mia forgetting GSD. When he is in my car he sits on the back seat he is  probably at a bigger risk of injury than her not to mention to any one in the car as he weighs 89lbs !

Thanks everyone for your views
