We feed Alfie ( 4 months old boxer ) Naturediet and last friday we started to add a little Raw Beef mince to his feeds. We dont add alot just about 80g to each food ( 3 times a day )

He has been fine and has loved his feed times but overnight he has started with a bad belly. His poops have been running slightly covered in mucus and slightly bloody.

We rang the vets who told us to give him a light diet for a few days and if he gets worse to take him in. He is bright in himself.

My partner is worried its the beef that caused it. He is not on a full raw diet by any stretch of the imagination so do you think this could have caused it??

He was wormed about two weeks ago and i would have thought if he was to have any problems it would have been almost  straight away after his first feed?

He is still small and with a little tummy you could be over feeding him by adding the mince too. It might not be the actual mince, just the quantity. Give him a basic diet (chicken and rice) to get him back to normal and then go from there.
I  personally wouldnt play around with his diet too much at such a young age but thats just my opinion

The problem we were having is that he wasnt eating his food at all. Its the only thing we could get him to eat as he wont touch dry kibble at all. He was looking really thin and we were worried he wasnt getting enough. We tried all the leaving food down for a limited time etc and he still wouldnt eat. He started to become very ribby and we didnt know what else to try?

Does ND come in dry kibble   I'm unclear about what exactly you've been feeding the puppy - could you please indicate exactly what you've been feeding and for how long, including what the puppy was on during the time it was with its breeder?

We may be better able to advise if we have more facts

Not as far as I'm aware - but I think what the OP was saying was that he WAS on dry kibble but wouldn't eat it, so she had switched to the Naturediet.

Naturediet is a wet food  http://www.naturediet.co.uk/ He was on JWB but went for days without eating so we gradually changed him to Naturediet. He's been on the Naturediet for 5 weeks now and we started to add a little raw last friday to it and he loves it. He has been fine till last night.

He's been alittle better today, he's only had a small amount of dry cooked chicken and we havent had any poops which is better than the 7 runny and slightly bloody ones overnight. He is fine in himself.

Among other things I feed NFD which is why the mention of dry kibble was confusing

As it's only been one night that your youngster has had a problem it's probably premature to assume it's something in his usual diet which has caused the problem.  Most likely he's gotten hold of something he shouldn't (or possibly had a few too many treats/titbits?) which has slightly upset his system and this should settle within a day or so of bland food, little and often

As he's been having the ND supplemented with beef for several days then it seems unlikely that is the cause although it may well be that you're increasing the quantity of his food to a greater degree than his tummy can cope with.

I feed a mixture of raw and moist completes but when starting out found the best way to supplement a moist complete for weight gain was to given raw chicken wings or thighs as a separate snack in the evening following their normal daily quota of anything else

Thanks everyone, we have started to introduce Alfies normal food today and panic over he seems his normal self. Poops now not runny and no blood!!

Good news   Go easy on him today, light food, little portions.  Don't try and get his usual daily quota into him for at least 24 hours in case he flares up again.  Although blood in motions is always worth having professionally assessed often it is very minor and a direct result of over straining when defecating.  Fresh blood (ie. minimal amount and obviously red) is not as worrying a sign as a large volume of fresh/clotted blood or digested blood (black, tarry in appearance).

I'm sure he'll be fine and you'll be feeling better too now!
