What are the best safety gates for use in the home, the space I have to fit is larger than  a normal door opening.  I have been to baby shops but they are all too small. None of the pet shops near me sell them, Help !!!

How big is the gap you want the gate to fit? I have the opposite problem and have a smaller than normal kitchen door. I have a wooden gate from Argos that is like 2 pieces of gate bolted together which can be extended or made smaller (fits 62cm to 106cm, no.3 on page 1532).

I found the metal ones kept coming apart at the bottom of the rungs leaving sharp bits which meant it had to go in the bin.

I think some of the gates you can buy extension panels from the gate manufacturers themselves - might not be much use if you are in a hurry.

Argos also have a play pen that can be used as a room divider if you have a really big space to fill (no. 13 on page 1533)

Hi Irene,

we had the same problem and got ours from HERE - it's good sturdy gate, slightly higher than average as well as being suited to wider openings and was easy to fit/remove/adjust :-)

It's attractive but sturdy as well - as you can imagine that's a bonus with M/M/A :-D

We have always used this style of gate

though we didn't get it from here.

You can get them in all different heights and widths, they have mesh rather than bars so less chance of heads getting stuck, and you don't have to fix anything permanently to the wall. Quite a clever mechanism really and cheap. :-)

Thanks everyone, thinking of getting the one from the site you mentioned Teri.  Probably see you at the w/e.
