When we went to ringcraft last night, they mentioned there is a dog match on Thursday. I have heard of them before and get the impression they are in between ringcraft and a show?

We are thinking of going, but I wondered what exactly will happen there? Will everyone just line up like at ringcraft, or will people be called in in any order, more like a show? if someone could explain it, I'd be very greatful!

At a match night, dogs will compete against each other 2 by 2 -normally names are drawn. So out of the first pair a winner is picked , the other is out. The winners of each pair are then pitched against the other winners, again two at a time, etc etc, until in the end there is only ONE dog left.

Sometimes dogs are split into puppies, adults and even puppies below 6 months as well, as it's ringcarft.

My ring craft is once a month, its just like a little show, so you get use to what it will be like at the real thing. Its fun and you get a rosette if you win

Match night at our local ring craft is like a mini show done in groups, baby puppy, puppy etc.

A word of warning,if your class/club is not registered with the Kennel Club they cannot hold matches as have been described. Matches should be held under a licence. They can be just within the club memebers or inter club. Puppies under 6 months may not take part (however some clubs have a 'puppy walk' for the babies which is not part of the main match. If there was a complaint or something brought it to the attention of K.C. then Everyone who participated in any way could be barred by K.C. No dog that has won a C.C. or any award that counts towards being a Champion may NOT enter matches.
Non registered clubs/classes should only judge handling & Not the dogs.
These are still very useful in training as there is still an element of competition and the routine is the same as at shows.

Hm I think you are way out of date, there are lots of non KC agility shows held & no one has been banned for taking part in them & most people do both KC & non KC shows, also there are now non KC breed shows being held & again no bans for anyone who takes part in them & KC shows with KC reg dogs. It changed a good while ago & under the current UK Law the KC cannot"ban"anyone for taking part in un KC reg shows/events etc

Ahh this is one of my gripes.  I have a Spanish Champion at home and he can't enter any matches limit shows but we don't have a championship level here so really his champion status stands for nothing.

A dog that I bred has recently become an Irish champion where there are usually only 2 or 3 of the breed at the show.  We compete against higher numbers here in this country.  We have our first breed club show a limit one next month and I was so looking forward to seeing the three sisters together as ones in Ireland, ones down souf and I own the other one but it's not to be.

I think the KC should have a ruling whereas rare breeds, imported breeds etc. should not be as strict on this ruling as it's a totally different kettle of fish than here for some of the champion status breeds in Ireland and abroad.
