I am pulling my hair out with housetraining littel Mia (pom/Chi)
She is 5months old now but is really random about where she wees and poos. Can go a couple of days only going outside then wil poo any where she feels like and also wees. Seems no rhyme nor reason even if she is in the kitchen with the door open.  I know toy breeds can be difficult but she is very good at waiting until youi back isturned and I rarely cathch her. She will go outside with me do a wee be praised . tit bits etc then randomly do it in door. I have cleaned all the carpets with bio and tried to reduce her area to one room but still no difference.

My other big dogs have always learned really well to go on command and in one area of the garden, I am not happy !!

Yes little dogs are harder to train, but they do get better, she's only 5 months old so only a baby, she won't really have control properly yet.
Just persevere, keep taking her out, try not to give her chance to do it inside. Say "wee wee" or whatever you say every time she performs and praise her like you are doing and eventually she'll do it on command.
You seem to be doing all the right things so just continue.

Saying that though about 30 years ago I had a tiny Yorkie (3lbs) that was really never trained, she couldn't get down the step to go outside so always had to be taken out . They also have tiny bladders so have to go out very frequently.

You should probably have her urine tested as a precaution that she hasn't a urine infection too.

She's five months old, still very young and she's a tiny crossbreed.  That's it.  She's turning her back on you to go business in the house because she knows that it upsets you so doesn't want to get caught out.  Ignore house accidents however tempting it is to scold.  Go back to basics and take her out every hour on the hour, then if you see results and as she gets older, increase it to every 1 and a half hours and so on and so forth.  I wouldn't rely on the pup being able to connect the kitchen door being open with "that must be where I have to go business" you have to take her out for her to realise

Thanks everyone. She is an odd one with the small bladder thing. She will go all night say from 10.00 until7130 and then I practically have to drag her out of her bedshe would much rather stay curled up in the warm. On occasion when I havent insisted she will manage 12hours without a wee ! (only a night I wouldnt dream of leaving any dog for anything like that). Perhaps the jkitchendoor thing is too much to ask I may rreverse that theory altogether and shut it and just take her out regulaly as you suggest

If she goes in the house I rarly see her do it she is a marvel at that and I doubt if she has been told off more than a couple of times and that has been a quick run to outside in mid wee an poo. As you say she is still a baby it is easy to forget I dare say I willget there its the smell and wet feet I hate (mine LOL)

I think when you are used to a medium/ larger breed whom can be housetrained very quickly, it is easy to look at a small breed and think that they or you are doing something wrong, but as already said, some never are housetrained, others can take a year, there is a world of difference between these breeds, I think it is an exception to have many of the small breeds trained by 6 months.

I know someone with a Bichon, (terribly hard breed to house train) who crates her girl on a night, and had a cat flap fitted, which actually seemed to work very well, it may also be worth a try.

But, I guess patience is the key here, taking her out very often will help you to elimate a lot of her toileting indoors, as for her she'll get it, but boy it seems to take a while.

Yep she is crated at night and if we are out and hs been brilliant from day 1, also has cat flap Mia just looks at the kitten flying in asnd out as if its mad. She could be right.! They are great playmates
Thanks guys for your words of encouragement as has been said she is my first experience of toy breeds and  it is reassuring to know that 5mths is still v. young for this breed and housetraining. We will get there no doubt just gets frustrating. 
She is so sweet and has converted me  and others to toys. And yes she is not a handbag dog although her true owner my 16yrold daughter has to be reminded that Mia does have legs !!
