hi, have a 18 week old westie pup, bought from a reputable and registered breeder, however am still struggling as is he i believe to receive kc papers from the kennel club. he has following weekly telephone conversations, tried and resubmitted paperwork to the kc but swtill no paperwork back from them in the post. is this unusual?  i was told by him today that he had finally received paperwork from them for another litter registered in APRIL. to be quite honest i now feel like foregoing the telephone and paying his kennels a personal visit to try and get this sorted out finally. but dont want to go charging in half cocked, so any helpful advise would be gratefully received.
i will NOT be taking the pup back.

Have you contacted the KC yourself to check that registration has been applied for?  Incidentally there is no such thing as a KC registered breeder.  Do you mean a local authority licenced breeder. a KC accredited breeder or a breeder that registers their dogs with the KC?

What does the breeder say the issue is? Most registrations seem to be processed in a matter of days, I wouldn't expect any longer than 2 weeks.

originally the breeder, kc accredited, said that there was a baclog at kc, then the original paperwork couldnt be traced by kc, all in all it seems a bit long to wait.

I recently sent my registration forms off to the KC on the 9th October, on the 10th the litter went on the sales register and on the 16th - a week later, they arrived back through my letterbox so I wouldn't say there was a backlog and I'm an accredited breeder.

I like many breeders with a Kennel name register my litters on-line and had my registration confirmed in an hour and had the documents in my hand two days later.

Do some of these 'breeders' think the general public are so soft and daft. They must think the general public have brains the size of peas.

Two weeks is a looooooong time to wait for paperwork, today paperwork submitted takes days to process.  Even if lost in the post *rolleyes* it takes nothing to send another lot out.

These 'breeders' infuriate me, that they treat their puppy buyers like such idiots.

Ring the KC and as suggested ask if the litter is being processed, if not you have your answer, if you were brave enough I'd take back the pup but people like this rely on the fact that you won't.

Always take your pup with paperwork, if it is not there walk away. Unless the breeder has exceptional circumstances for not having the paperwork ready, they have 8 weeks to send it off, there really aren't that many excuses not to.

Did the breeder give you in writing assurances that the paperwork would be passed on? It's actualy in the KC code of ethics to do this..

The only legitimate hold-up can be if the name has been rejected or an affix/kennel name application is pending, but the new owner should have a letter from the breeder to the effect that paperwork will be forthcoming.

Sorry but this sounds very suspicious!  By registered breed is this that he breeds so many pups that he has to be registered with the council etc?  Rather than the KC Accredited Breeders register.
