Now David Tennant has announced he is going, who should replace him?

My vote is for Eddie Izzard.

David Williams, from Little Britain.
One is never enough!!

Well,
I was going to say that now they killed him off the gorgeous bloke from spooks is available (((:-D)))

But now you've suggest him...yesssss Izzard gets my vote too! (would love to see an unconventional eccentric Dr. now after all the pretty boys ;-) Bill Bailey gets my vote too on that score)

Talking of Spooks, Matthew McFadden would be a possible.

I would like to see a Christopher Eccleston reincarnation.  He was my all time favourite.

He was brilliant. He had, in spades, the slightly spooky, chilling, alien aspect that some of them have lacked.

Rhys Ifans for Dr. Who!  :-)

Someone on the radio suggested Richard E. Grant

I don't watch it so I don't really care.   Bring back more Vets In Practice Revisited.............

Oh, yes that's it!  I think this also contributed to that rather confused air that Rose had in her obvious chemistry with him.  Tennant has been good but he has played it for laughs I feel and hasn't been as thrilling for me.

That's another good suggestion, I think that whoever plays Dr. Who has to have the ability to be slightly whacky don't they?
By LindyLou (****) [gb] Date 30.10.08 19:28 GMT
You want someone a bit wacky? Then why not that certain 'gentleman' that is in all the news just now? I'm sure he would just love a phone call..............you could leave a message on his answering machine........ ;-)

I am afraid I find that certain person a bit on the creepy side - he would frighten all the children!  Doctor Who has to be likeable - Christopher Eccleston certainly had everything - appealed to children and adults alike.  David Tennant has done the job very well - will be so sorry to see him leave.  Eddie Izzard I think is brilliant - would he do it dressed in female clothes too!   I would not want to see a female Dr Who though as has been suggested at some time - that would really finish it for me.

Russell Brand or Noddy Holder !
By Debussy (**) [gb] Date 30.10.08 21:03 GMT
I think it's time for a black Dr. Who.  I think Adrian Lester, who used to be in Hustle, would do a good job.

What about that guy off Crystal Maze ?

Richard O'Brien. Good choice

I do also agree that Brand would be quite good. Don't like him as "Him" but has a good look for The Doctor

How about the first female regeneration?? Very 21st century

Who, Richard O'Brian?  He'd be better as an Ood!!!
By Julie Hill (**) [gb] Date 30.10.08 22:54 GMT
How about Lawrence Lewelyn Bowen (may have spelt that wrong!) He could do a makeover on the Tardis!
Or Rik Mayall or Ade Edmundson. Or Lenny Henry for that matter?
Russell Brand would certainly have the time on his hands, but I would fear for his female companion!

I think we should have a woman next and I think Jennifer Saunders would make an excellent doctor.  :D

my vote is for Russel Brand - it might make me watch it :-)
whats the point in dieting ??
By ceejay (****) [gb] Date 31.10.08 15:36 GMT
No not Jennifer Saunders - it would take a lot of imagination not to see Jennifer Saunders if you see what I mean.  Anyone who saw her in Larkrise would understand what I am saying.

I know exactly what you mean, I find that when actors move between soaps :-)

Not Rik Mayall either - saw him on stage in the New Statesman.  Not a lot of effort really  Did I just get Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders muddled up :-o   No same goes for JS too - Like Catherine Tate - difficult not to see all the characters she plays although she did do very well in the role.  We need someone new and not a celeb.

There is talk of James Nesbitt. A great choice, he has the talent and just an edge of naughtiness, with the possibility of a 'darker side' thrown in.

How about Jon Pertwees Son Sean...Now that would be surreal.

If we're going for fantasy doctors, how about Sawyer from Lost? Different direction I know, but I wouldn't miss an episode!

Eh? Well that's just stupid!  What about the Doctor's Daughter?  I LOVED that episode and it was so left open at the end.

ETA just googled and apparently it was David Tennant himself who said Billy could be a contender, so there is nothing official yet I don't think.

Ah yes the one where Peter Davison's real life daughter of course a former time lord himself, played Dr Who daughter! lol that must of been a bit weird

Oooh! John Simm :-) He gets my vote.  Very good in Life on Mars.
By Isabel (*****) [gb] Date 04.11.08 15:42 GMT
Oh yes, Robert Carlisle! He is like a camelion.  He has always astonished me with the variation he has put in the characters he has played and played them brilliantly too.  I will never forget him as the baddy in Cracker, then Begby in Trainspotting and then Hamish McWatsit.  He does it all with conviction.  I wonder how he would play Dr Who?  For laughs or intensity?

I went to the same school as Robert Carlyle :-)  Although MANY years apart.
