We lost our 3rd chicken in a week to a fox. This is happening early morning, after OH lets them out of coop around 7.30am. He heard a curfuffal and it had carried a Welsummer over the garden wall. We back onto a woods and were thinking how lucky we had been, we got the chooks in Feb this year. Just wondered if anyone has used these fox deterents that give off a high pitched noise. Do they work? Would it upset the dogs? (Fox definatly not bothered by dogs barking!) Have tried tying human hair in bundles round the garden to no effect!
Failing that it will be a friend of OH with his shotgun laying in wait, although he won't have to hang around long as Mr Fox getting bold and coming into garen around lunchtime too!!!

If he is a good shot I think that is your only solution now the fox knows where a regular dinner is waiting.

Unfortunately we had to trap the foxes, we had a 2 vixen's who killed all the ducks/hens, so we borrowed a humane trap, and then we let  them go into the woods nearby, well 5 miles away.
But the only solution is to kill them, if the attacks keep happening.

I once read & please don't quote me on how good this works but...apparently human urine is supposed to deter them!!  We have a problem with them coming into the garden & pooing, which of course the dog absolutely adores but the smell is horrendous! Yuk! We don't keep chickens so don't have to worry about them, although I did chase 3 foxes away from our next door neighbour's little girls rabbits, one was on top of the hutch!!!

If you relocate foxes to another fox's territory there will be serious welfare problems. Best to kill them humanely.

We have an aviary of various parrots and smaller birds and my OH regularly p*** around the aviary and my neighbour has chooks and he does the same (round his hen house not our aviary!!)

Must be man widdle though as it's a male domination thing, ladies piddle must have a more delicate odour Plus I'm blowed if I'm going to squatty down in the garden with skirts akimbo!!

My pervy neighbour would just love that!!! I will mention it to hubby but looks like his friend (who thinks he is some kind of Rambo-esk styley) will be bringing some "bait" (didn't like to ask what it was!!) and staking out from 6am tomorrow, rifle in hand. I just hope he's a good shot.
I went down the garden around 3pm this afternoon and Mr Fox was stood there, obviously coming back for 2nds.
Our chickens are much loved pets. My Silver Campine (Blackie) was the 1st to go, now Wellie Bob, the Welsummer. Quite sad :o(

Once they've found the larder they'll keep coming back till it's empty.

cage trap is quite good....we have caught 2 this week for my BIL with our cage trap but if you buy a new one it needs to be left to lose some of its humany smell 1st.
Please dont release them else where though....its quite pointless and inhumane. better to aske an experineced FAC holder to dispatch humanely with a .22 or ask the hunt to dispatch with a HK /pistol.
if you know where the earth is then your local hunt may give you their terriermans contact and he may be able to help.

Also, I seem to remember you have to have the land owner's permission to release them but not too sure.
