Pippa had 6 puppies yesterday all weighing from 6.8 and 7.5 oz have weighed them today and all but 2 have lost weight is this normal?
Should I be worried?
I have until now left Pippa to feed the pups is it worth me putting them on to her 3 at a time to make sure them get enough?
This is my 3rd litter but my other 2 where small litters 3 and 4
Stephanie

Yes it is...perfectly normal

Yes definately.
For the first few days I constantly put them on as some pups depending on how soon they were born do take a day or two to really become strong. Some are stronger than others. You putting them on ensures they get plenty food are not being pushed out by the bigger stronger pups.
How much weight have they lost?
one has lost 1oz is that ok??? Not for me personally. Keep putting them on every couple of hours. Especially the ones that have lost weight.
I haven't personally had any lost weight maybe the odd one that has stayed the same but this would be the one that would be getting popped on constantly for me.

I wouldn't espect them to lose a whole ounce! Do as suggested and put on and WATCH them feeding...you have to be sure that all are getting a fair share...it's very easy for one or two to miss out! More regular supervised feeding, you may have to consider topping them up as a last resort?

That does seem quite a lot. Have you checked the mouths? Do they seem dehydrated?

Yeah they're not big dogs are they...so defo an ounce is a lot!

Its usual to lose or maintain for the 1st 2 days (in my breeds anyhow)...however I watch them like hawks and soon spot who is a bot weaker and getting barged off the teats...then I make sure they get prime position and I guard them for 10 mins at each session so I know they are getting plenty.

Looks as though she has mastitis in the back boobs they are huge and hard and v hot have tryed to get out milk from the second boob and not a lot is coming out and the first boobs which i call the silly onec have hardly nothing am waiting for my vet to ring me so will c what he says

I would take the strugglers(those that have lost weight) and place them on rear teats(the fullest) let them have the milk bar to themselves for a while, then let the stronger ones in to feed.

Ohh that rather defeats my post then!
You may well end up bottle feeding! I hope not! But if you have no equipment in get in touch with Hyperdrug first thing in the morning, though you may end up needed it earlier! I don't know if PAH sell bottle feeding stuff do they?

i apply hot flannels 4 or 4 times a day. if thats not helping then synulox is good.
good luck poor girl shes going thro it x
love your dogs as thay love u

Hot flannel on the swollen ones every couple hours and then keep putting them on. If you sit constantly you can generally get it under control. Get the strong ones sucking on the engorged ones.
