OH MY GOD What an afternoon I have had at work. As some of you know I work in an A&E dept but have recently gone from being an HCA to receptionist due to poorley knees. well today a woman (Who I knew) rushed into reception and said her baby was unwell I peered over the desk and did not like what I saw so rushed her through to Resus and called a paed team as baby was fitting....turns out baby was in the first, very rapid stages of Meningitis....very poorley and immediatelly ventilated and rushed to BRI. God if I had waited and booked her in as usuall and messed about baby would be gone!! Thank you whichever angel made me move fast. I need a strong Brandy now to settle my nerves.
Some healing thoughts would be good now for a very poorley baby and a distrought Mum.
A very traumatised Aileen.

Gosh Merlot, how awful, sending healing vibes to baby & mum.

I was thinking I had a bad day today after nearly being wiped out by a granny going through a red light and being abused all afternoon on the phone!!

Really puts things in perspective though, what's a few ignorant people in the big scheme of things.  At least the little one has gotten rapid medical help which i know improves the chances.

Hope the brandy helps calm you down, everything is being done that can be done, fingers and toes all crossed.

well done you.
Hope you have clamed down now.
and that the baby is okay.

Well done as your prompt action obviously saved the little one. It's funny how fate often steps in, sorry about your poorly knees, but if they hadn't been causing a problem, you wouldnt have been on reception. I think you definitely deserve a brandy, or two or three. I bet the shock takes a good week to get over, so maybe that could even be seven!!

Gosh, that was spooky - I'd literally *just* started reading your post and what should pop up on the news but about a student at one of the Bristol Unis (gone out of my head already I was so surprised!) who died of meningitis at the BRI last week. Is that your daughter's OH's friend?

I really hope baby will be ok Aileen, well done you for acting so quickly

I hope the baby pulls through, that is very scary and with your knowledge you acted quickly at the right time, which in turn has given the little one a chance!!! Well done you for doing what you did for the little one..

Really hope that everything turns out for the best..
RIP Bentley - such a wonderful dog to live with, never forgotten.

That bought back some terrible memories for me Aileen - a happy ending though thankfully for me and some angels looked after us that year -

Well done to you and I send positive vibes to the baby so they pull through just like my baby girl did 11 years ago xxx (just given my daughter another kiss now)

You didn't have a bad day at work. You had a good day at work. You saved a life. Well done to you for recognising there was a major problem.

Just a quick update for you.
Baby is now back in our hospital, alls well and is hopefully going to make a full recovery. Seems it was a very high fever and a very nasty febrile convulsion that brought on a fit and a collapse.
Still alls well that ends well. Still in hospt for a couple of days for monitoring but hopes to be home later this week.
Thanks for all your prayers and good vibes!
Aileen
