Does any one use Nature Diet  Fish or Chicken.

Is it supposed to have a really strong smell.  Dogs will eat the chicken but give the fish a wide berth.
Though they are toydogs they are not fussy about food.

Have you checked the sell by date?  I bought 10 trays at PAH a couple of weeks back and two were fish (hadn't used that variety before).  It really stank and my pup who jumps up in anticipation of ANY reward jumped up and looked disappointed .... checked the date on the packet and it was for that day (too short IMO) and it smelled rank.  I binned it and the other fish one.

Turned out the others were all use within that week which with a small amount was easy peasy but I wont be getting any moist menus from that branch again :-(

Hello Teri,

I have just spoken to Nature diet on the phone and they said to send back one of each and they will check it out for me, that was after they suggested donating it to a rescue kennel.
Both chicken and fish are well within there use by dates.  I have two boxes (18 trays in each) a bit much just to dump it.

I got a case of white fish, potato and rice and yeah it smells a bit but no worse than the tripe one used to but George loves it.  Maybe he is weird :-)
Another day, another lesson learned :-)

I bought the Natures Harvest Ocean Fish and vegetables for the first time the other day for my 2 toy poodles one of which is a very fussy eater and that too does have a very strong smell but both of my dogs seemed to like it. I haven't tried Nature Diet for quite a long time as they didn,t seem to like it as much as the Natures Menu which I have been feeding them up until now. The reason I decided to try Natures Harvest is because I have noticed that since Natures Menu has been repacked the ingredients list include various sugars in it which They didn,t before and I would like to know what these are, maybe I should contact the manufacturer and ask them. Going back to the Nature Diet I found that when I did use it my 2 poodles seemed to have a film over their faeces rather like a sausage skin. Sorry to be so graphic but has anyone else found this with Nature Diet?

Maybe George is the dog with taste!! Yeuch.  Gave some to a friend this morning and she says it's fine, it does smell a bit, but then so does fish! LOL her dog wolfed it down.  Shame she has just bought a load in or she would have had it.
Ttaylor got to agree on the dogs toilet, does come out in what looks like a sausage skin.
Afraid it won't be chicken or fish again though, even the room stank when they were eating it.  Looks like it will go to a rescue if I can find one who will accept it or the bin.

I wonder what is in the Nature Diet that causes the sausage skin appearance? I don't suppose that it is a problem to the dogs it just looks strange but it does put me off buying Nature Diet as they don't seem to have this problem with Natures Menu or Natures Harvest which in my humble opinion are just as good quality foods as Nature Diet

That's interesting as my dogs only had the problem with Nature's Menu :-)

My dogs (and me!) prefer NH to ND but they are both good quality foods although ND did have a problem a while back with some stock being off.

The 'sausage skin' on stools you refer to is mucus and IMO if your dog's stools are like that then something isn't as it should be as this is usually an inflammatory response.  Either something in the recipe doesn't agree with the dog or the quantity given may be just too much.

Mine have never had this on any brand of moist complete or on raw food.

As I have already explained my dogs have only had this reaction when been fed Nature Diet they have been absolutely fine on the other foods They have been given namely Nature's Menu ,Natures Harvest and also the dried food which are Royal Canin Mini Sensible and Burns Mini Bites. So maybe it is that Nature Diet does not suit them and I am obviously not alone with this as I have read other people's posts on champ dogs saying their dogs have had the same problem. I have to say I have not used Nature Diet since it has been repackaged or the recipes changed so maybe they would be okay with it now but I think I will stick with Natures Menu and Natures Harvest anyway.

My 2 have tried ND...NH...and NM and like all three, i dont like the smell of fish ND diet so they dont get that one,it makes me feel ill just doing their tea.
I like NM best but it is the most expensive and you get less per pack.

Just had a phone call from ND concerning the packs of food I returned for checking.

There results were that the Fish definetly did have a nasty odour and though the chicken did smell stronger than usual all the tests came back ok.  They did advise putting the fish in the bin and the chicken as well if I felt it wasn't right.

Got to say they were very quick to respond once I sent the product to them and very nice on the phone as well.
10 out of 10 for customer service from me.

My dogs have always been on naturediet (the smelly tripe variety as I ordered it a while ago - it's still well in date) and I have had no problems with it.  Both of them are in very good nick.  No problems with poo either.
