Hi there. I gave my Cav King Charles a bath on Friday but by the same time the next day he was smelly again. Not just a normal doggy smell but this awful smell of stale urine. I think when he urinates he get's it all on the fur in his belly and it dries there and causes a stink. Should he be washing this off himself or is there some way I can clean him without giving him a bath? I've heard too many baths can be damaging or irritating to the skin & fur of a dog. Can anybody advise me please?

what I would do is get a pair of scissors and trim all the fur around under his belly by his willy short. As long as you leave the hair on the sides of his belly alone, then when he is standing you won't even see that it has been trimmed. I did this for a castrated Samoyed belonging to a relative, I cut the hair really short right from the ribs to the sheeth, and the hair around the sheeth also, and all the long bits on the insides of the hind legs too!

As far as him cleaning himself, some dogs are more fastidious than others, and as he is a baby he isn't very skilful yet. I would get one of those baby bath liquids, that are very mild and don't need rinsing for humans. Put some in a bowl, and sponge him down, followed by a rinse off with a sponge of clean water.

I use this on baby puppies, when they roll about in the mess, and when people come to see them to clean their paws. Everyone wants to pick up pups, and a face full of smelly paws is yucky! :D

Just be careful you don't do a 'Bobitt' on him :D :D :D

We trim Holly up underneath and around her 'defecation aperture' (that's what the breeder called it!!! :D) and we haven't noticed any smells yet. We do have to bribe her with black pudding to get it done though :D

My friends who groom dogs always called the genitalia of both sexes Winkies! They too said Bum holes! I am quite happy with willy for boys, but apart from Vulva or private parts, can't think of anything non medical or over euphmistic for girlie bits!

The women that I go to for puppy classes calls the girlie bit the "fairy" which I think is quite feminine! awh!

PS I call them willys cos Molly's looks the same as Barney's to me .. I thought we had two boys when I bought her home but then again as some of you may remember I didnt know where Barney's "bits" were to start with cos they were not where I thought they should be and were in two separate places and not together..I think... (I dont have any sons LOL!!!

Hi Leigh, yes I am but my husband has his bits together and they are not furry and he doesnt roll on the floor wanting his belly rubbed (well not any more ha ha ha)!!!! LOL. Barney's are in two different places - gawd knows why!!!
